The history of Jamia Hamdard began with the establishment of a small Unani clinic in the year 1906 by Hakeem Hafiz Abdul Majeed, a practitioner with the vision of making the practice of Unani medicine a scientific discipline. In 1972, Hamdard College of Pharmacy was setup with the objective of providing education and training in all branches of Pharmacy, which was given the Deemed University status in the year 1989. Currently, Jamia Hamdard is engaged in imparting high quality teaching and research in the disciplines of Pharmacy, Science, Medicine, Nursing, Management, Information Technology, Allied Health Sciences, Islamic studies etc. In recognition of its excellent and academic achievements, Jamia Hamdard has been awarded Institute of Eminence (IOE) by Govt of India and accredited with 'A' Grade by National Accreditation and Assessment Council (NAAC). It has recently been ranked 21st amongst the top 100 universities in India by NIRF-2020, Govt. of India.
